I supported the European Parliament’s resolution on the EU budget for 2026, as it represents a balanced and responsible position that safeguards Europe’s key priorities. Parliament clearly opposed any attempts to cut funding for core EU programmes. This is a strong signal that there is no consent to saving money at the expense of our shared future. At the heart of the budget are the areas that today determine the Union’s strength and security: defence, energy security, economic competitiveness, support for farmers, public health, crisis response, as well as the protection of democracy and the strengthening of Europe’s position in the world.
The approach agreed by Parliament guarantees funding for action in these areas and allows for an effective response to new challenges. The budget cuts proposed by some member states would be irresponsible and would hit programmes such as Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, and EU4Health – initiatives that provide real support to citizens.
The EU budget is not a tool for political bargaining, but an investment in security, development, and the unity of Europeans. That is why I voted for an ambitious and stable 2026 budget, one that will allow Europe to act effectively and with an eye to the future.
