The European Parliament has adopted my report on the use of algorithms and artificial intelligence in the workplace.
The document addresses the dynamic changes that are already affecting the organization of work throughout the European Union – from scheduling to performance evaluations to personnel decisions.
Algorithmic management already plays a significant role in the workplace. This issue affects both the more than 32 million employers and the 200 million workers in the European Union.
That is why I believe it is our duty, as Members of the European Parliament, to take proactive action. A human-centered approach is key.
The rights, safety, and dignity of both parties to the employment relationship must be strictly respected. Algorithms must not be allowed to fire people.
For entrepreneurs: the report confirms that algorithms and AI-based tools can provide real support in running a business.
For workers: the document establishes a key principle that the most important employment decisions cannot be made solely by algorithms.
